Ecuador Rivers

A web guide to the rivers of the west slope

Published by Chris Dickinson

This web guide was launched in 2008. Some of these rivers have seen as few as a single descent. Please use the information provided with care and understand that flash floods, landslides, fallen trees and even earthquakes can drastically alter runs. Chris can take no responsibility for the accuracy of information provided or any omissions. All grades and observations are subjective and flow dependent. There are changes afoot. At present there are plans to dam the Pilaton/Toachi/Sarapullo system for hydro electric generation.

Notwithstanding this the west slope of Ecuador is at least the equal of the more famous east or Amazon slope for river paddling , but despite much better access it has seen much less paddling activity.

The site is dedicated to our great friend Pablo whose paddling career ended so abruptly, but whose enthusiasm for paddling in Ecuador and life in general made him well loved.
